Safely operate a Class A tractor and 53' dry van trailer for local pickup and delivery of freight.
Conduct pretrip and posttrip inspections, documenting and reporting any defects per DOT and company policy.
Secure cargo, verify load counts and documentation, and ensure freight is properly loaded and balanced.
Transport shipments between FirstMile facilities, regional carrier partners, and local customers on scheduled routes.
Navigate industrial, urban, and yard environments, including backing into docks and tight spaces safely.
Maintain accurate logs, bills of lading, and delivery/pickup paperwork as required.
Adhere to all DOT regulations, FMCSA hoursofservice rules, and FirstMile safety standards.
Communicate professionally with dispatch, warehouse staff, and customers regarding ETAs, delays, and exceptions.
Assist with loading/unloading and pallet jack or forklift work as needed to support warehouse operations.
Required qualifications:
Valid CDL Class A license with a clean MVR that meets FirstMile's insurance standards.
Minimum of 2 years verifiable CDL Class A tractortrailer experience, preferably with 53' trailers in local or regional work.
Current DOT medical card and ability to pass a preemployment drug screen and background check.
Experience operating in dock/yard environments, including backing, coupling/uncoupling, and maneuvering in tight areas.
Ability to regularly lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs and use pallet jacks or materialhandling equipment.
Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, Hours of Service, and safe driving practices.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work a consistent schedule that may include early mornings or occasional overtime.
Preferred experience and skills:
Prior experience in parcel, LTL, or eCommerce freight operations.
Familiarity with Salt Lake City and surrounding industrial areas and carrier terminals.
Basic technology proficiency using smartphones or incab devices for routing, scanning, and communication.
