Under the direction of the Supervisor I, the Crime Analyst Supervisor (CAS) is responsible for administering and supervising the day-to-day activities of the within the Quality Support Program – Limited Term Quality Assurance (QA) Team. The QA Team trains Armed and Prohibited Person Unit staff to conduct firearms eligibility checks as well as ensures firearm eligibility checks are processed accurately by conducting quality assurance reviews on a sampling of eligibility check determinations. The CAS identifies, recommends, and implements changes to existing processes and procedures necessary to increase overall efficiency and acts as a liaison with other programs and units within the Department as well as external stakeholders to resolve possible problems with criminal history and firearms eligibility related records. The CAS performs supervisory duties related to hiring, training, development, and evaluation as well as collects data and prepares statistical reports relative to program operations. The CAS must have a thorough knowledge of California statutory code sections, the criminal justice system, and the laws and regulations governing eligibility to purchase/possess firearms in California.

Ability to: work independently to meet deadlines with minimal supervision; work productively as a member of a team; select important elements contained within reports; extract data from detailed documents; establish and maintain files and databases; apply general rules to specific problems to form logical conclusions; identify missing items in a thread of information to establish a need for further investigation; visually present results of investigative efforts through a variety of software tools; identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions; break complex data down into organized and useful sections of information; and gather sources of information to be used in identifying trends of making conclusions.
