What You’d Be Responsible For: The Tax Accountant provides experienced, detailed accounting services and tax preparation for returns of varying scope and complexity. This role is responsible for preparing complete workpapers and returns ready for review, handling routine client communications, and contributing positively to firm operations. This position is not a management role, but offers opportunities to assist with training and mentoring as experience and interest develop. Prepare individual, fiduciary, and business tax returns with minimal supervision Ensure work papers, supporting documents, and tax returns are ready for initial review. Communicate directly with clients on routine tax matters and information requests Conduct tax research and apply conclusions under supervision as appropriate Contribute to internal firm operations and workflow improvements Continually update job knowledge and firm visibility by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations. With regard to basic accounting functions, this role may be responsible for the following: Preparing financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information. Maintaining and balancing subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, reconciling transactions; resolve discrepancies. Consolidating general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts; preparing trial balances; reconciling entries. Summarizing financial status by collecting information; preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements. Producing payroll; printing checks, verifying finished product. Requirements and Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting 2-4 years of experience in tax and public accounting (business, fiduciary, and individual returns) Demonstrated experience in accrual and cash methods of accounting Desired Qualification: CPA in good standing or CPA candidate Experience working with closely held businesses and high net worth clients Demonstrated experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting and cost control principles, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) Advanced knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting best practices, laws, standards, and state/national regulations Technology Skills Lacerte (preferred) or other tax processing systems Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)6b250ea6-cee3-481d-915c-f7283f1b2f1b
